When you extend an assignment, the form now shows the period you are extending and the date it ends, so a start date that lands inside it is obvious. If the dates do overlap, a warning names how many days are already covered and by which assignment — on whichever field needs to move, with the fix that matches.
The same information reaches the person approving it: the approval now states what the extension extends and when that period ends, with the overlap flagged next to the decision buttons rather than somewhere further up the page. On a consultant's card, an overlapping extension carries a badge naming the days and the assignment they belong to.
Nothing is blocked. Overlaps are sometimes deliberate — a revised rate with the current period shortened afterwards, for instance — so the warning informs and the extension still goes through.
